May 7, 2016 – Today advertising and measurements are my foci. I have dedicated all day today towards creating my new Goodreads author page, writing down my book’s best quotes, promoting my book and quotes on Pinterest and Instagram and measuring my Facebook Amazon pre-order ads. For new self-publishers who don’t know how or where to get started, this post is for you.
This is the Facebook of book readers. All of the major publishing houses are on Goodreads. Goodreads is the place for bibliophiles (people who love books). There are two types of accounts: personal and author. Up until today, I have had only a personal account. However, with the help of Andrea from Goodreads, I now have a Goodreads author profile. This is a momentous achievement because it feels like I am a real author. Furthermore, I am brimming with excitement over my copying and pasting my carlarjenkins.com RSS feed to Goodreads to sync my blog. I feel like I can get hired for a website designer or help desk right now!

I am doing advertising and Pinterest is very good with visual media. Moreover, this platform is great for cataloging photos. I have created a new quotes board containing all of my book’s quotes. In the tab section, I write the quote, paste my book’s website and type my book’s hashtag #expandyourpersonalbrand. When I work with my book promotion company, I can send it my Pinterest board and they can review it. Pinterest also stores videos so when I have my Facebook release party, I will upload all of my videos and photos there.
Instagram is a great for ads because you can also employ your personal hashtags. Hashtags double as both advertising and metrics. I can use my own hashtag and track how many people like or share the photo. If certain demographics, like or share my hashtag then these people are my target market. I am trying to get my products to the most people. As a self-published author, I am all about profit maximization and cost minimization. Using hashtags achieves both. Instagram is also owned by Facebook so you cast a wider net through this medium. That’s important when it comes to advertising.
I have run a copy of my previous Facebook Amazon pre-order ad today. Although the reach is less (probably due to this being the weekend), my website clicks are higher and my relevance number has increased from 5 to 6. I am happier with this campaign because I have learned that I should advertise during the weekday and that my ad is gaining traction.
Advertising and measurements are critical towards increasing book sales. Remember, you have to sell to your target market in order to maximize the chance of conversion. Here are some websites which will increase your chances.
